I wasn't exactly blown away by it, to me it was just okay. Apart from the ending, I didn't find any of it exactly surprising or chilling. I'm not a huge fan of creepy books and was expecting to be creeped out by this, but I wasn't and I'm a wimp when it comes to this kind of stuff. I know all stories are pretty much just a retelling or a different version of something before it, but to me this felt like every folk horror I've seen. It didn't seem to bring anything new or particularly exciting to a tale I feel I've heard hundreds of times before.
Because the story is so short too it's hard to connect with the characters, its hard to feel like you can get properly invested into them. To say the book is only 241pages it's quite slow paced and I found myself thinking they need to get to point a lot quicker than what they were doing, for quite a few parts of it.
Andrew Michael hurley does build up the Atmosphere well, but it never quite delivers and at times just falls flat.
What saves this book for me is the writing, although the story itself is (to me) nothing new, the writing is beautiful and attentive. Also what saves the story is about the last 20pages or so, the ending is what you want the whole book to be. Its creepy, weird and proper twisted. After reading the ending you do have to sit and think what have I just read....
If it wasn't for that ending and great writing style it would have been less stars from me unfortunately.

On another plus side I do love the art work on the cover of this book, it's simple and yet perfect for what this story is.
