I was cautious going into reading this as I don't like novels with elements of "mysticism" or fantasy. However, this book turned out to be grounded in reality.

The house and environment was evoked so well I could picture every room and ever part of the garden of this spooky house. The relationship between the married couple was very sensitively done, dealing with the fall-out and grief from the loss of a child.

A compact novel with a beautiful cover, reading this encouraged me to challenge myself more often with books I don't "think" I will like. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this, particularly if you live in rural England as you will recognise the small-town gossips and local myths - I know I did having grown up in Lancashire.
