Starve Acre is a perfect book to curl up with in front of the fire whilst Winter gloom is all around.

Juliette and Richard are grieving after the death of their five year old son Ewan. Whilst still reeling, Richard has begun to put his life back together and is continuing with projects but Juliette is really struggling and unable to make sense of things. She begins to seek help via a mysterious group called the Beacons who call to the house to detect any residual traces of Ewan.

It’s difficult to say much more without starting to give away plot points. This was a very compelling read, gloomy, mournful and eerie. The writing is very descriptive and it is easy to built up a clear image of the house, the fields and the characters. Whilst great to read on dark nights, best keep a light nearby!
