This book is part of a series and although it is perfectly readable and understandable as a standalone novel I do wonder if I would have enjoyed it more having read the others first. The writing style is good, the scene setting and characterisation is clear and imaginative. It’s a very jam packed novel with plenty going on, sometimes too much happening at the same time, there is enough to keep you interested in reading more. At times some aspects seem a little far fetched but if you accept it’s probably just artistic licence it’s easy to let it slide. Overall I enjoyed the book, I wouldn’t necessarily have bought it for myself and I’m not sure if I’d search for more in the series.
