A really interesting read, into a world of intrigue and twists left right and centre. You can visibly feel the cold of the Stasi Winter from the excellent, descriptive writing by this author.
The story follows a female detective who has left the detective squad and has really legitimate reasons not to want to go back, connected with her previous colleagues having been involved in the Nazi Youth Army. She is strong armed/persuaded (!) to go back and cover what appears to be a seemingly innocent death of a woman in the cold, dressed in the wrong clothing for the weather.
What follows demonstrates an interesting period of history showing how people lived in fear and poverty in West Germany and the left over of war and spy agencies. Really worthwhile read.
