This book started of very strong I picked it up after just finishing a book and wasnt expecting to get into it so quickly but two hours went by and I had read half of the book and was thoroughly enjoying the writing style and story. Although I was finding it difficult in some sentences to read the words but that is as I only read and speak one language and this being only my second novel set within the past it took some getting used to with the location names etc.

I can't say I ever took a great interest in history before meeting my partner but he adores it and is constantly telling me ne information so when I received this copy free from readers first to review I was eager to delve into it so I could spark discussions about the cold war and the stasi. I am now aware David Young has more novels with Muller being the main character and I will definitely be on the lookout to buy more and read more of her story.

Wildcat is her code name and she was to spy on others and report back to the stasi until she met Dieter and then her thoughts on things change. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Irma's side of the story potentially a bit more than Mullers. But likely as the book kept talking about things in Mullers past and I hadn't read the other books I wasn't as up to date with Mullers past and therefore wasn't as invested in her characters backstory yet. I found Irmas side to have more resonance with me as she is younger and has found herself a bad boy to love and it seemed much more exciting that is until we then meet Karin Muller, mother of twins headed back into work. She works with the peoples police and must defy the stasi to solve the murder of a young woman. Blackmailed back into work so she can support her young family Muller must work alongside previous colleagues whom she does not trust. I got more into Muller's side of the story halfway into the book when she was undercover and I became really intrigued into who this murdered woman really was.

I really enjoyed how the ending went and the last one hundred pages I read went by so quickly I was so invested in the story and desperate for Irma to get away and live happily because I just wanted something happy for the poor lass. I would definitely pick up the other books on the series and read them.
Brilliant mystery thriller reads.
