This novel is set in East Germany with the Stasi having full control over people's lives. The lead character is pulled back into being a detective in the Peoples Police and sent to investigate a women's murder. The murder investigation pulls in a young girl who has tried to leave the country previously, been caught and send to a young offenders school.
I did not know much about this period of history before reading this novel so was intrigued to find out about normal life and how people were made to believe in the government.
The 2 lead characters the female detective and young girl were very different and with opposing views however I did want both characters to end up with a happy ending!
I really enjoyed the 2 simultaneous storylines and it kept me intrigued right to the end.
