I had read, and enjoyed, the first book in the series, Stasi Child. The idea of a crime series set in East Germany really appealed to me.

The follow up is set a few months later and moves the action from East Berlin to Halle Neustadt. The description of this East German model city really bring it to life.

The story follows an investigation that is hampered by Stasi interference and entwined events with discoveries in Karin Muller's back story. Past events impact on the case and the characters.

In places you feel the suspicion and fear that the Stasi had on East German life. It is hard to tell who you can trust, or if you are being manipulated for some reason.

This is an enjoyable story, that is well plotted, characterised and keeps you reading.
