Well plotted, well researched and well written. This book ticks all the boxes.
Not only did it entertain but I felt I had been educated about life and conditions in East Germany during the 1970s.
Police detective Karin Muller is sent to one of East Germany's showpiece new towns to lead an enquiry into the abduction of twins. However the investigation is thwarted by the secret Police (Stasi) who do not want any publicity about crime to be associated with the new town. Whilst in the area and constantly fighting against the omnipresent fear, secrecy and cruelty of the Stasi, Karin also takes the opportunity to confront her mother about her unhappy childhood.
I loved this book and have put David Young's previous book featuring Karin Muller, Stasi Child, on my Christmas books wish list. I might not be able to wait that long though....
