I'm so not the target audience for this book. I'm not a young adult and know absolutely nothing about the rap scene but this book genuinely made me laugh several times.
Shaun, aka MC Growls, is unintentionally funny, due to his continual mis-usage of words. He may not be the brightest of sparks but has a heart the size of a lion. He's joined at the hip with his best mate, Shanks, until a Facebook Live broadcast (which involves both of them) goes catastrophically wrong
Suddenly he's the laughing stock at school and his bestest bud has done a disappearing act. The girl he fancied has gone cold as ice and, just to top things off, his family are facing eviction.
With the help of a new friend and an understanding teacher, Shaun starts to pick up the pieces and comes to realise that his rap dreams could be the answer to everyone's problems - can he just pluck up the courage to go for it.
Shaun is an adorable "idiot". The kid that means well, tries hard but always seems to get it wrong. You root for him, you can't help but love him and you hold your breath whilst he tries to make his dreams come true.
This book is funny, heartfelt and just utterly unmissable - I LOVED it!
