Shaun Thompson also goes by the stage name of "Growls. " He is into rap and when he hears of a raptology competition he thinks it's the answer to his prayers as there is prize money which will help with his mam's rent so they won't have to move out plus it has the added bonus of giving him some kudos to attract Tanisha, the most popular girl at school. But when some embarrassing stuff accidentally goes viral during a rehearsal Tanisha wants nothing to do with him. Hurt and upset and worried over his best friend Shanks who has fallen ill he wants to pull out of the competition.
Then a new girl Siobhan shows herself to be a real friend and tries to help Shaun get his groove back.
But can he go on and win the day without Shanks and help his family out?
This was a fun, quirky story but it dealt with serious issues that can really affect teens.
