The opening chapter was very easy to read. It was the perfect balance of description vs dialogue. I felt you really got to know the background of the story well, and I already love Friedrich's character. It was heartbreaking reading about his mother's dependence on drink nearer the end.
I like the front cover image... it looks like a heartwarming romance and I would be inclined to pick it up in the shops to read more.
