As a young person who is not from Germany, but currently lives in Berlin, I felt fascinated with the story. Historical events are usually taught stripped of personal considerations, so I found it refreshing that this book tries to do the opposite: to show a period in history using a more humane side, narrated through the perspective of two lovers who find themselves in an unfavorable situation. I hope that this book is able to capture how life was in Berlin during those years. Even now, this city is mesmerizing for all of the stories that it tells, all the corners full of meaning. I'm looking forward to reading a book that not only focuses on the development of the characters but also on how they interact with their environment. This novel has the potential to provide that approach.
