I really like the sound of this book! The first impression nicely outlines the main character's childhood while weaving in enough historical facts to place his story in context of the Second World War. I enjoyed the family dynamics of Friedrich's family, and the contrast between his prejudiced mother and more open-minded father. Friedrich is a character who (literally) sees the world in shades of grey, and I am looking forward to reading about his experiences in Berlin.
