The cover of the book conveys the time and setting for the story - set in Germany at the time of the Second World War. I found the blurb a bit off putting with its complex sentences but, having read the first 25 pages, I would like to read the rest of the book. The narrative is a bit stilted - I’m not sure whether this is because it is in the voice of a young boy or whether this is due to it having been translated from German.
