I have to confess that I do usually struggle with historical fiction, it just isn't for me. Having said that, this is well written, you really can connect with the lead character who is writing. I like how the author takes this seemingly happy family and this happy scenario and just destroys it within the first few pages, it really does start off well and I imagine will continue to get better. As I say though, I personally do really struggle with historical fiction and reading about the wars I usually find quite boring and just not my cup of tea.
