Poor Friedrich... this is such a powerful piece of storytelling. From his loss of ability to see colours, to the cruelty of his alcoholic mother, Friedrich comes across as a lonely yet stoic young man who is desperate to be a good son to his dysfunctional parents.
Berlin seems a scary place but he is determined to leave his lonely life at home to succeed as an artist and so he goes off for a new adventure.
