This book had me gripped from the beginning to the end, in fact I couldn't put it down. Friedrich had a difficult childhood he was brought up to follow his mother's dreams of being an artist and going to art college in Vienna, he spent time going to museums holding his mother's hand and her reading him bedtime story's. Then a tragic accident happens which results in Friedrich loosing his ability to see colours, this results in his mother distancing herself from him.
Skip to Friedrich moving to Berlin during WW2 and falling in love with Stella and discovering and new world. Although this is set during the backdrop of war a beautiful love story develops, and you almost forget that there is a war happening. They make a new friend with Tristen and the group have a fantastic time visiting nightclubs and eating cheese.
However no one is who they say they are and how far will Friedrich go to save Stella.
