It is so hard to review this book. It is a combination of facts and story. It is based around a real person but the main character is fictional.

At times it felt a bit disjointed with the facts, story and evidence notes. It also felt that the story of Fredrich could have been better explored. Yet as you get to the end of the book it becomes clear why it is written as it is.

The story is chilling and powerful. It shows a whole new dimension of horror on World War Two. How could a Jew give up other Jews? How could non-Germans come to the country to help with the atrocities that were happening?

The story is really of Stella/Kristin and yet we learn so little about her motivations. The character of Friedrich is unsettling and from the start I thought we would learn more about him yet by the end I still did not feel that I knew him or what he was hoping to achieve in Germany.

A difficult read but a story that needs to be shared.
