Wow! This book was very thought-provoking. The book itself was a very easy read and I managed to read it within two sit-ins. One thing I loved about this book was, that for each month the author provided facts about what was happening in the world at that time.

The story itself sent me on a rollercoaster of emotions. Friedrich sets off on a journey to Germany at the height of the war. Here he meets an enchanting woman called Kristin. Kristin is a very hard character to read, she came across as very quirky and spontaneous. It left me guessing through the book what was going on with her. Friedrich slowly comes to a realisation and its heartbreaking to see the desperation he goes through to cling to the hope that Kristin isn't what others say she is.

The ending came as a real shock to me and left me wondering why Stella would do what she did. This isn't my usual type of reading but I thoroughly enjoyed it. A must-read for anyone who enjoys reading war era books.
