When I read the blurb, I thought that the Cinderella part was a metaphor. Very few, if not any books, have tried such a concept.
The writing style was not very immersive or captivating. The sentences were quite short and snappy (which isn’t bad). Although the writing style did fit the novel (as it is a classic fairytale with a twist), it did however fail to make me (and possibly other readers) interested. The extract was also not descriptive. The main character’s looks are not described, but I hope they will be. I felt like this was a story made to be read by a younger audience as there are not many emotions and every character except Isabelle (the main character) is underdeveloped.
However, I did like the concept and twist. Although it was a bit gruesome to read, it did show what lengths people go to achieve ‘beauty’.
I liked the way the main character is seen as an antagonist. Although Isabelle is very strong-willed, she is also incredibly selfish. But I love a character with flaws as it makes them more realistic. I am curious to see what Isabelle will do to be labelled as an antagonist and the mean girl.
