This incredibly dark and eerie retelling of "Cinderella" was an interesting one. Told through the perspective of one of the "evil stepsisters", we see how the kingdom isn't as beautiful and brilliant as it seems to be. Our main character is jealous of her stepsister, but not in the traditional sense. She and her other sister, the other evil stepsister, are unsure why Ella is so well-beloved. The girls are manipulated by their mother, even resorting to chopping off toes and the backs of their ankles to fit in the glass slippers. Isabelle must overcome the world that has been set out for her, one that sets her up for failure, in comparison to Ella. She and her sister Tavi are determined to show that they are valuable too. That they are great too.
