"Strange, isn't it, how stories that are never told are the ones we need to hear,"

"Change is a kiss in the dark. A rose in the snow. A wild road on a windy night,"

It's my first time reading a fantasy of grim theme. I was curious on what will happen on the story for it was indicated that it tells the after event of Cinderella's infamous stepsister, Isabelle. I watched the Disney movie of Cinderella and I admit that I hated her sister for treating her with cruelty. And I want to see the other side of the story, the villains.

No doubt, I, hundred-percent like the characters. They were so bold and brusque! Especially when men explain that knowledge isn't for women, they didn't fit in the society. This gave me a look-back to the history of gender inequality. I never felt so empowered just by reading the dialogues of the characters. I saw hope when Chance and his colleagues hosted a play, it showed the women in history. Leading war, standing out for themselves and voicing out for freedom. I couldn't help but smile.

I learned that in reading, we tend to overlook on various details. This may be a re-cast of the villain, but it tells so much more to the readers. Villains used to be good people. Sometimes, the root of their abhorrent and insecurity was the people around them. Insensitive people tend to poison their mind through words. These relentless inequality didn't gave them the rights to be themselves. But then, let's surround ourselves with people disregarding our own flaws. Those who can see through us. And, villains are capable of changing too.

I was so glad because Isabelle got to lead an army. She's unique. She likes swords and books. Horses and climbing trees. She was determined to save her family from being destitute. She was ready to solve packs of gold and freedom, in exchange of her dear horse.

She's beautiful. She's a woman.
