My original review was titled “I liked it, I didn’t love it”. I have recently reread this book and on my second read it has become one of my favourites. There are so many quotes in this book that are so important and meaningful to me. When I read it when I was younger I think I didn’t truly understand what I was reading, but upon a reread this is one of few 5 star books for me.

The story centres on one of cinderellas “ugly” stepsister. She wasn’t kind but she wasn’t horrible either just sick of being treated worse because she wasn’t as pretty as her sister. This story shows her struggle to realise her self worth, achieve her dreams and al she deserves despite fate, who is a realised character in this tale, trying everything to stop her. She’s such a powerful, witty, badass character who you can’t help but love despite herself. Romance takes a backseat on this story of self-discovery and fight against misogyny a few hundred years ago in France.
