A startling, fiercely feminist re-imagining of Cinderella from bestselling, award-winning author Jennifer Donnelly. Isabelle should be blissfully happy – she's about to win the handsome prince. Except Isabelle isn't the beautiful girl who lost the glass slipper and captured the prince's heart. Stepsister may be a fairytale but this is a universal theme that reflects out into the real world too. Whilst Isabelle is challenged to redefine her perception of beauty, we as readers are challenged to see things from a bully's perspective, rather than the victim. Donnelly brings everyone into Isabelle’s perspective instead of focusing on Ella (Cinderella) like other variations of Cinderella. Isabelle goes through a lot of judgment and still pulls through, becoming herself. The characters were well thought out...Jennifer Donnelly incorporated the idea of Fate versus Chance fighting over Isabelle’s life as another level to the plot which served as a third-party perspective to the moments unfolding before our eyes and that was so creative and intriguing!...
