I wanted this book from the second I saw the cover, so I had very high expectations when I finally read it. With its beautiful writing and impressive story, it certainly did not disappoint.

This is the story of one of Cinderella's stepsisters, Isabelle, and it kicks off just as Cinderella ends. As the villain of another story, I found myself looking for cruelty in Isabelle's actions, trying to link her with the ugly stepsister in Cinderella. Whilst it was quite easy to imagine that these two characters were the same, the shifted perspective impressively justified her actions and indeed turned her into a wonderful anti-hero. The story follows Isabelle's journey to attempt to find the missing pieces of her heart, which are needed to ensure her survival, and the fight between Fate and Chance to determine her future.

From the very beginning, this story took on the tone of a fairytale and carefully bridged the gap between this and an action thriller. Whilst the writing was poetic and somewhat whimsical, the action in the story kept it believable and gripping. I found myself intrigued throughout and unable to figure out what the ending would be.

Overall, I am extremely glad I read this book. I would recommend it both as an interesting sequel to Cinderella for lovers of fairytales, and a gripping novel for any YA reader.
