I was instantly drawn to the front cover of this book and loved that it was a narrative that would continue near where the story of Cinderella ended but from the point of view of her ‘ugly’ Step Sisters, especially Isabelle.

The book was quite dark in places and that appealed to me as it was more based around the traditional Grimm tales than a Disney version.

I loved the characters of The Fates and Chance and all the imagery used. This was a story that was as heartbreaking as it was heartwarming. It made me proud to be a woman, for us to be able to recognise our strengths as well as our weaknesses. My daughter once attended a Princess and Knights birthday party as the only girl Knight. I was really proud of her for being brave enough to dress up as she wanted and that she knew that girls can be anything they want to be regardless of what the opinions of others may be. I look forward to the day she is old enough to read this book and learn about Isabelle’s story.

All the characters in this book had their important parts to play in each other’s lives and it was a great insight into understanding why some people behave the way they do.

I would recommend this book to anyone even if you aren’t a fan of traditional fairytales because the messages it covered and the characters involved are relatable in so many ways. For anyone who has had their heart broken, made a mistake, done wrong to others or had wrong done to them, who believes in destiny, fate, chance and everything in between or those that believe you make your own path in this world this is the book for you.
