I wanted to love this book and was really looking forward to it as I love a good retelling. This promised to be a completely unique version of the fairytale we all know and love, Cinderella. From the point of view of the ugly stepsister, it was exactly that but not in a good way.
First of all I found the character really hard to connect to or like in any way. She was too whiny for my liking, I would have liked her more if she had shown more remorse for her actions instead of just self pity.
The plot of putting your heart back together through magical items just didn't grip me as it should have done. Instead of it being magical, I found it lacklustre and a bit boring.
The characters chance and fate also really confused me, I didn't feel they tied into the story very well at all.
About 150 pages in, I knew I couldn't push any further through the book. All the complaints I had above may well have made sense had I continued but I wasn't interested enough to keep reading.
