Having never read any of Jennifer Donnelly's books or any fairy tale retelling before, I went into this book a little bit unsure of what to expect. However, it was pure brilliance! It's a perfect retelling and extension of Cinderella. The way she describes and builds up the character of Isabelle, Chance and The Fates just makes you want to read on!
Having never read anything by this author before, I really enjoyed her writing style and found it hard to put this book down! The way she uses analogies and metaphors to describe feelings, character traits and behaviours was just effortless and beautiful to read! My personal favourite part of the book is the wolf analogy she uses in Chapter 14! Something about the way she describes it really stuck with me!
Some part do feel a little long winded and seem to just be racking up the word count, but overall the plot and story telling is marvellous! I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading YA or fairy tale retellings!
