I loved this. It is the untold story of Cinderella's ugly stepsisters. I nearly didn't read this as the cover didn't really grab me and when I read the first impression I was a bit put off by the first bit. It is a bit gory where Isabelle cuts off her toes to try to fit the glass slipper. I was so glad I gave it a try because a few chapters in I was hooked. Isabelle is such a great character and we really get to explore how she has become what she is because of what society has told her she can and can't be. I'm not a big fan of fantasy books but I really enjoyed the magical aspects of this. I really love the author's take on the 'fairy godmother'. The fact that 'Fate' and 'Chance' are characters in the book who try to influence Isabelle is really well written. I will definitely look out for other books by Jennifer Donnelly.
