This was such a surprise of a book, I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did! It's not a retelling of Cinderella but a what happens next from the perspective of her "ugly" Stepsister Isabelle. It starts with the prince bringing around the glass slipper looking for Cinderella and we learn how far the stepmother makes the Stepsisters go to get the prince, basically cutting off part of their feet to fit the shoe. So as we know Cinderella gets the prince and goes off to live happily ever after. But what happens to her stepmother and sisters? Well it seems that fate (who is an actual person) has decided that Isabelle should not meet the grisly end that has been mapped out for her by the old crone. There is so much happening in the book but it's written beautifully written and you get drawn in to Isabelle's plight and learn that while she's made some bad decisions she's not actually a bad person.
