Usually i don’t really like fairytale retellings for the main reason that they’re quite frankly overdone and don't always particularly add much to the story, meaning that they end up as predictable and boring. However, stepsister completely changed this view!
The story revolves around Cinderella’s ugly step sister, and her own point of view witnessing Cinderella’s ascent into royalty. Whilst they were completely irredeemable in the original story, here they are instead the victims to society and its views on beauty and appearance. Due to their ugly appearance, they’re constantly villainised and hated by most, leading them to be shaped by their mother into the misled and bitter step sisters we mostly know from the fairytale.
This witty and brilliant retelling really captured my attention early on in the beginning and i 100% recommend!
