After spotting the striking cover I thought, "you know, that sounds pretty intriguing", and I wasn't disappointed!

It was the description of the 'Teddy' character in the book summary that was the deciding factor on reading the first impression for me. Although I was a little disappointed that there was only a cursory nod to him in this short excerpt, the other characters and their initial shenanigans more than make up for his absence.

I'm also rather fond of immediate scene setting where crime reads are concerned, and so far this story appears to just 'get on with things' (big thumbs up for that).

But the real tease was Emilie's mysterious 'phone call right at the end of this intro. Trouble could be brewing for the very newly qualified lawyer. After having literally just passed her bar exam someone requests her professional assistance, even though she's not had time to celebrate her success let alone advertise for clients to represent. How very curious...
