I have never been a fan of the Swedish Noir style, especially after reading the Steig Larsson Millennium trilogy. However, the blurb said for fans of Karin Slaughter and her novels are always enjoyable so I thought I would give this a go.

The first impression is certainly interesting and introduces a wide range of different characters to be tied together later in the book.

I have already decided the policeman interviewing Mats is quite likely corrupt but guess we'll have to wait and see if I was right on that one. Emelie is either going to wither under the pressure of her first criminal case or become some sort of super lawyer only by virtue of her lack of experience and there is no way Tony is going to achieve his aim of being a policement instead of a "caretaker in a suit".

From the brief first impression this novel does appear to be following tried and tested tropes of crime fiction and I would hope that my initial reaction proves to be false.
