I can tell the author is trying hard to mislead with a series of red herrings and false trails in the style of a 'Golden Age' mystery, starting with the prologue. The premise is good but I suspect the vacuous characters would soon start to annoy me. By the end of the excerpt I had limited interest in whodunnit or why.
