What a delightful book.
The story of a young girl brought to England by the Red Cross after the war is told beautifully.
The way she adapts to her new life and her new friendships is told with feeling and the way it relates to her former life is enlightening.
Her relationship with the son of the family she works for, a man who was in the RAF and who also has been damaged by the war, is lovely to see.
The experiences she has suffered at the hands of the Nazis during World War Two saddens your heart.
Seeing how she grows and matures in her new life is wonderful.
I love the way the ghosts of various war hero’s and other residents of the house are incorporated into the novel.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book from start to finish.
