I really enjoyed this book; it draws you in at the start, then ambles along at a gentle pace until a final rush towards the ending. The story is about a child refugee, Brigitta, who arrives in the UK in October 1946. Unbeknownst to the Red Cross, who have escorted the refugees from Europe, Brigitta has a mission: to reach a place called Summerland and search for answers....
To say anything else would spoil this beautifully written story about the post war period and the lives of those affected by the war in different ways. I love how all the chapters are named after different foodstuffs - each being relevant to its respective chapter - a quirky touch. It is quite a short book, which could easily be devoured in one sitting.
