Brigid is a child. One who has been torn from her family by war and sent too a place she does not know. The place is strange, the people are strangers, she doesn't know what to do. It is 1946 and she has arrived with tatty clothes and a cardboard suitcase, nothing else. But when she gets to Waterloo she decides to run. She needs to find the one person she knows, the one person who can keep her alive and safe. And this person lives at Summerland Hall. The author cleverly keeps you guessing as to Brigid's secrets throughout the first part of the book until all is slowly revealed. This book shows how people treat one another, whether through race or religion, good or bad and the author has brought this book to life by letting you in on the life of one small child whose life was ruled by war - very clever
