I was thrilled to receive my reading copy of Summerland because I loved the author's book The Red Ribbon .
October 1946 . The war has ended but the Red Cross are still busy , escorting groups of children , refugees to London . One of them is Brigitta , a solomn silent child . She carries a shabby cardboard suitcase which contains a solitary grey glove . It is her most important possession . On reaching London she runs away from the group . Her mission is to reach a place called Summerland . Here she hopes to find the one person who can solve a mystery .
Summerland has it's own secrets to reveal . Brigitta struggles to learn the English idioms and customs and encounters suspicion , hatred and even cruelty . Many people in the village mistake her Austrian accent for German and even here some people hate the Jews . Her life may be in serious danger unless she dares to reveal her secret . She has kept it hidden for so long . Can she reveal the truth at last ?
This is such agripping book I read it in one day !
