A short but very interesting book that follows fifteen year old Brigitta who's come over to England with the Red Cross. Brigitta is Austrian and Jewish, we slowly discover the horrors she has had to endure during the war, such as hiding in a cramped wardrobe, surviving bombings and concentration camps.
Once Brigitta arrives in England we learn she has a secret mission to complete, to Summerland and then find the answers she deserves! I found this added mystery to be very intriguing. Brigitta's personality definitely shines through when she's talking about her family and the trails she's been through.
I also loved the magical realism element to this book, it definitely added something new to a historical fiction novel.
