Summer land is the best book I've read for quite a while. Although a story about the war it is from the perspective of the children who struggled to survive. Brigitte has been brought to England by the Red Cross in 1946. She runs away and manages to get to Summer land where her mother had told her she would find help. There are several twists and turns in the story and a few surprises although hints are given along the way. Although Brigitte has escaped from the Jewish persecution abroad she still has to face it when she arrives in England. There seems to be a belief that anyone foreign is a threat and disbelief in the holocaust. Even the children are easily swayed to turn against her.
