I really enjoyed reading this story, so much so that I read it all in one sitting. It’s an uplifting tale overall, with plot twists and turns dealing with the atrocities and aftermath of war told through the eyes of the main protagonist, Brigitta. I found some of the content relevant to today with regards to the treatment of refugees and migrants. Shame we do not seem to learn from history. If you enjoy historical fiction then I would definitely recommend reading this book. Although the book is aimed at the young adult market it does not shy away from dealing with the trauma experienced by young Jewish children persecuted during the holocaust and focuses on how those who managed to escape, were determined to live full lives embracing their new freedoms.
