So this had hooked me from the first chapter! The story is about a child refugee, Brigitta Iggle, who arrives in England in October 1946 to start a new life. Brigitta is on a mission to reach a place called Summerland and wants answers. Intriguing! It's an interesting book that’s full of clever twists and turns. The pace is steady and then speeds up towards the end which keeps you engaged. I would say it is slightly predictable but it doesn’t take away the enjoyment of the story. It does shine a light on the effects of war, especially on children. It focuses on a harrowing part of history but it’s important to tell these stories. You also have a coming of age element which I really liked.

This book is heartbreaking, thoughtful and uplifting. It definitely takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions so be prepared! I am a big historical fiction fan especially books set during or after WWII. I just find that period of history fascinating! BUT, I won’t say anymore as I wouldn’t want to say any spoilers! 🙈 Recommend if you love some historical fiction like me and fancy a quick read.
