This was an intriguing opening that set the scene for a potentially very exciting story.
Set at the end of WW2 you are introduced to an Austrian Jew travelling to England with other orphans.
The first person narrative is fast paced and enjoyable, you begin to get to know the protagonist and want to know more of her story. There are lots of hints and tips that something sinister is going to develop in the story and this is very engaging.
Also the imagery is good and paints a clear picture of post war England.
The extract ends introducing new characters that seem interesting. The story gradually drip feeds information about the protagonists story and how she came to be in England and makes you keen to learn why she seems to be plotting revenge.
