From just reading the first impression of this book I just knew it would be a story I'd really enjoy which is why I decided to use my points to get this copy and boy was I glad I did!
This fantastic novel (which I only realised when reading is a Young Adult novel) is centred around the end of WW2 and the character Brigitta who is a refugee and has come over to the UK with the Red Cross within the first couple of chapters you could sense there was something a lot deeper and darker to her storyline, that her character was troubled and seeking resolution by running away to Summerland.
It's packed with twists, turns and completely unexpected moments. I felt shocked, stunned, sad, joyful - it honestly provided everything!
I like the fact that even though this is a short novel, the characters are full of depth, the plot is strong and it's very well written. Also as an added extra I loved how each chapter was named after some form of traditional British food - it was a lovely touch.
One of my favourite reads this summer - perfect for historic fiction fans, young adults interested in learning more about WW2 or those with a passion for history.
