Brigitta’s journey into her new world after the tragedy of the war is cleverly depicted in this book.
The author was able to describe the way Brigitta’s new world might appear to a foreigner. The strange food, crazy colloquial dialect and traditions easily annotate Brigitta’s transition from War torn Berlin to Summerland.
This book is an eye opener to the challenges a person may face when settling into a new environment but it also challenges the changes a person may have to make to adjust to their new life. Not only does Brigitta have to adjust to a new life in a strange place with new people she has to settle and feel like she belongs.
Throughout the story, the author hints at the ending of the book but until it was actually revealed I didn’t quite believe it. I loved the twist all the same.
