Very atmospheric
I read Red Ribbon by Lucy Adlington and absolutely loved it, so was excited to read her new offering.
I wasn't disappointed! From the opening chapter, we really feel like we are there with the characters, such is the sense of time and place.
I've read many novels set during world war two, along with many non fiction accounts of lives lived through the war, however I had never read anything from the viewpoint of a child refugee, and I found it really interesting and informative.
It's a very easy to read book, the writing style is great and the characters are ones you really invest in for various reasons.
The twist at the end was a complete surprise which I didn't see coming. Roll on Lucy's next book!
