I like the idea of this novel, and generally enjoy YA fiction; the cover brings to mind some of John Green's novels and is aesthetically pleasing. The narrative flits between a 3rd person and a 1st, told from the perspective of a fifteen year old girl who has been killed by a hit-and-run; it is this voice that really annoys me and is the cause of the two stars. She is flippant and superficial; upon viewing her dead body in the morgue just hours after her death, instead of recanting her feelings of horror, isolation, fear etc. she admires her makeup, tells us of the eyeshadow shades she used, and exalts the benefits of waterproof mascara. Whilst looking at her mangled, dead body. I'm all for something to relieve the tension, but this superficiality is so unbelievable and jarring that it spoils what is actually a very interesting premise. I'd be interested to read more to see how the character develops.
