Sunflowers in February written by Phyllida Shrimpton has such an amazing concept that deals with important issues such as grief and how it can effect those around you. The book follows a girl who was killed in a hit and run accident and how she manages to possess her brothers body allowing her to understand the aftermath of her loss.
Although the themes of this book were hard hitting for a young adult book and may be triggering to some people dealing with the passing of a loved one I feel like the conclusion is something everyone should understand; death/loss is sad but you should celebrate what you had with the person and how they affected you rather than willow in what you have lost.
Like I said I loved the idea of the book and the writing style was simple and matches the characters age and sophistication. Saying this though the general pacing was slightly off but its to be expected with a knew writer so it wasn't a major issue for me personally.
In general, I think it is an important book to share and that this writer seems to really want to dig deep with younger audiences. I'm looking forward to more books by Phyllida Shrimpton.
