This is little novel is bursting with charm. Shrimpton has created characters that are alive an vibrant (whilst one being dead...). The reader is alongside each charcter every step of the way.
For a young adult novel the topic is adult, important and handled with great skill. As an adult reader I didnt feel anything was missing and I think this may be a novel I will revisit again an again. I encourage my children (and anyone else for that matter) to read it.
As Ben takes Lily with him wherever he goes this novel will go with me. A lovely way to teach young adults the power and necessity of forgiveness Phyllida Shrimpton has acheived greatness with her first novel. I shall look out for more by this author.
